Disney Boners for Dads

It’s the little things that make Disney World so great, wouldn’t you agree? I love Disney rides and the food and fireworks, but what I really love is watching creepy dads watch the belly dancer in EPCOT’s Morocco.

Polka With Your Mother

One thing that’s true about my mom is that she loves to polka though she technically doesn’t know how. When we go to weddings—or super bizarre funerals—and there is polka music at the reception, her eyes light up and she looks at me like a kid who wants an ice cream cone. (She also looks at me like this when she wants an ice cream cone.)

“Fine, fine,” I say. “I’ll polka with you.”

I dislike polka-ing but I figure it’s the least I can do for the woman who gave birth to me. So we get up and dance, trying not to step on each other’s toes, and gallop around the stage to the beat of Roll Out the Barrel.

The Best Movie Disney Ever Made

In 1996 I was in sixth grade and new to the Walt Disney World scene, and my mom sent for the free promotional video before one of our trips. It quickly became the most watched thing in our video casette library. I begged to watch it over and over, every day. I didn’t know what promotion meant, I just thought this was an awesome video that was getting me even more exciting about going to Disney World. I was a marketer’s dream.

How exciting that I can watch this video once more, as a full blown adult. It’s split into three parts, below. Make sure to catch the ridiculously 80′s moment at 1:53 and the ridiculously adorable moment at 2:05 in the first video:

Let’s Be Honest – The Norway Movie Is Unfortunate

Oh no! It's a troll!

author’s note: my family, in an attempt to say the word “sucks” less, has adopted the word “unfortunate” for use in its place. And so, in this blog, if we say that something is “unfortunate”, what we mean is that “it sucks”.

The movie at the end of Maelstrom , the ride in the Norway Pavillion at EPCOT is extremely unfortunate – and it has always been unfortunate. The first time I disembarked from my Viking boat and entered the theater, I seated myself obediently and I gave it a chance – I won’t make that mistake twice. Continue reading

Pack Your Bag, Brazil! You’re Going to Disney World!

This says: DootDeDoo Lauren is bombass, muahah Disney Kicks Ass, buttcheeks, Jesus, & Brazil is coming to EPCOT.

You know I love me some EPCOT, but I do always bitch about how it’s so unchanged. It’s almost completely the same, down to food, entertainment, and merchandise, to the point if you saw a picture, you may not be able to tell if it’s from the ’80s or now.

But! According to one of the biggest newspapers in São Paulo, Disney World might be welcoming Brazil to the shores of World Showcase Lagoon. I’m thinking: YAY! But my first thought was: WTF?

Brazil just seems a little random, that’s all. Here are the countries that I want to come to EPCOT:

I Am Effing Serious About the American Adventure

Lauren I used to consider myself kind of unpatriotic, so I would always walk right on past the American Adventure in EPCOT’s World Showcase. There are 12 countries in World Showcase, and it pissed me off that the American Adventure was smack in the middle, fourteen times larger than all of the others. Like, of course, right? And I never, ever went to show inside. We must have been pretty bored (or drunk? or incredibly sunburned?) one day, though, because we went inside. And it was so amazing I cried. And today, it is one of my favorite attractions in all of Walt Disney World.

Hot French Waiters

Lauren In EPCOT, 11 countries are represented in World Showcase with pavillions where you can eat, drink, shop, and party authentically (or inauthentically in an adorable, kitchy way) in the country you are visiting. And 11 countries are represented by their young, hot cast member representatives. Continue reading
