People ask us for advice all the time about their Disney trips and the question that I dread having to answer is this: Should I do Disney in August?
The words August and Disney give me post traumatic stress disorder and flashbacks – flashbacks of my least favorite trip to Disney World.
It was mid-August and the end of some hurricane or another but we’d gotten a really good rate (it’s no wonder why the rates are lower in August) and we thought we’d bring a friend of ours along to show her what we loved about Disney.
It really never did stop raining, and most of the time it was raining so hard and the wind was so strong that the ponchos didn’t even help – we were constantly soaking wet. And yet it was still stinking hot – sometimes I think I’d like to live in Florida and then other times…
One evening we had reservations (priority seating – excuse me) at the Italian restaurant at the Italy pavillion and we were late because even the Friendship, the boat from the EPCOT resorts had temporarily stopped running because of the storm.
We finally arrived and walked in looking like drowned rats, mascara running and our clothes clinging to us, soaked and sticky. Since I always take the opportunity to practice speaking Italian there, a waiter stopped me and said, “Piove Signora?” (Is it raining, madam?)
“Sì, un po’ “. Yes, a little.
My neighbors’ trip would have been next week, and while I never say, “Don’t go”, I always tell people about our ill-fated trip and let them decide for themselves.
As it turns out, the weather forcast for next week in Orlando is hot and

We went for our honeymoon in August of 2008. Fay was there and you know what I was ok with it minus the night we were dressed for Victoria and Alberts. The crowds were low. We were able to ride everything TWICE maybe three times. Our Dining plan lasted and then some no heat- less need for snacks of the liquid kind. it was a lot of fun then and looking back it still is. Now last year we went in July and there was a heat wave. 104 everyday and not a drop of rain in 5 days! It was pretty awful. I would say that the rain was a much better inclement weather than the sun and humidity feeling like they are trying to cop a feel.
